5 Tips To Land Your Dream Job

Do you ever find yourself gawking at a job posting that’s right up your alley yet seems so out of reach? Us too. Whether you’re career-obsessed or are simply looking for a role that will bring comfort and fulfillment to your life, job satisfaction is incredibly important! If you want to land your dream role, make a change, or get one step closer to your goals, check out our five tips:

Network Your network is your net worth! It’s so much easier to get your foot in the door when you’re already well-connected. Attend a local conference or networking event, purchase a session with one of the incredible women in our Busy Blooming Marketplace, or head to LinkedIn and send a note to someone you’d like to meet up with for coffee. It can be challenging to put yourself out there, but we promise that the payoff will be totally worth it!

Be realistic Unless you’ve been hustling since the day you were born, you won’t be hired as the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company at 25. Do plenty of research into each role and company so that you can tailor your resume, cover letter, and CV accordingly. Give yourself the best chance at landing interviews by setting goals that are realistic, measurable, and timely, today.

Be confident Did you know that oftentimes, men will apply for a position when they meet only 60% of the qualifications, but women will only do so if they meet 100% of them? Break that cycle! Never self-select yourself out of a hiring process before you apply. If you think a position may be above your scope of expertise, send in that application anyway. It won’t be the end of the world if a hiring manager rejects you.

Gain relevant experience We get it - you want to be a marketing superstar/graphic designer/engineering queen at a company you’ve always admired. If you haven’t landed a position in your field of choice yet, hone your skills by using spare time to craft work samples, a website, or a portfolio. The next time a recruiter asks you about your experience, you’ll be prepared to communicate all of the cool things you’ve been working on AND will have something to show them.

Keep cool The day has come for you to finally interview for a position at your dream company! You’re so nervous/excited/freaked out that you can’t seem to calm yourself down. Take a deep breath and remember that everything will be alright, whether you get the position or not. At the end of the day, remember that a job is just that: a job. Your title and responsibilities don’t define you and success looks different for everyone. Someday, you’ll look back on this time in your life and laugh about how uncertain things felt. Don’t forget to (try) and enjoy the process. Happy job hunting, girlies!
